dmoz.org is the most authoritative directory on the web, and a link from that directory to your website is one of the most influential single links there is.
We've applied several times to be included, and for some reason - we weren't. After all, it's an open directory and relies on volunteers to review and include the requests to be included.
Either there was no-one to review our links, they were too busy, or they just didn't want us in there.
After a few months of deliberating, we decided that it would be beneficial for us to volunteer to be an editor for the category we wanted to be included in:

The goal of the directory is to provide the best organization of websites around, and a key part in that is including the best links in our category. We didn't just add our's, we found several other very good companies in Boise, and included them as well.
After all, an ecosystem of good web design and web development in Boise Idaho benefits us all. The easier it is for prospects to find companies, the better off they are.
We take our role seriously, and look forward to reviewing and including additional high quality links in the Boise Web Design and Development section of dmoz.org.
